William H. Bonney, alias Billy the Kid was one of New Mexico's most infamous outlaws in the late 1800's during the time of the Lincoln County War. He was a notorious gunfighter and ran with The Regulators following the death of his pal, John Tunstall. He died at the hands of sheriff Pat Garrett at the age of 21. Billy the Kid is buried in Fort Sumner, New Mexico with Charlie Bowdre and Tom O'Folliard. Billy's tombstone has one large word engraved along the top... P A L S.
